Dictation 10 - Earthquake
A massive earthquake rocked the town, causing wholesale devastation. In the aftermath of the earthquake, there was utter chaos. People ran for cover under the hail of flying glass and debris. After the quake, John walked around the area, trying to assess the extent of the destruction. Roads and bridges had collapsed and buildings had been reduced to rubble. It was a grisly scene. Rescue workers grimly shifted through the rubble with the faint hope of finding survivors.
Dictation 9 - Flood
As a result of heavy rains, the river had swollen dangerously. Some of the elderly residents of the houses in the low-lying areas were trapped in their homes by the surging flood water. The floods disrupted road traffic. Flood water sloshed inside the interiors of cars trapped by the waist-deep water as they attempted to plough through the roads. Rescue workers went from car to car, helping people carry their belongings out of danger to higher ground.

CRIME PREVENTION ADVISORY – OUTRAGE OF MODESTY
Recently, two molest cases occurred in the lifts at Blk 496D and Blk 491H Tampines. In these cases, the culprit would loiter around the lift lobby and wait for the opportune moment to enter the lift after the victim. While inside the lift, the culprit would seize the opportunity to touch the victim and flee when the lift door opens.
The description of the culprit is given as follows:
- Male Chinese aged 18 – 20 yrs;
- Short hair with black spectacles and carrying a small black bag;
- Wore a yellow colour t-shirt and a light coloured bottom with red sport shoes.
You can avoid being the next victim by adopting the following crime prevention measures:
• Always be alert and attentive to the surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to the nearest open business premises, crowded area or call the police to seek help;
• Avoid taking lifts with strangers. Let the stranger take the lift first and wait for the next one;
• If you are returning home alone late at night, make arrangements for a family member/trusted friend to accompany you home.
Should you be a victim of crime, remain calm and do not resist. Take note of the description of the culprit, e.g. his appearance, clothing, height and other physical details. Also note the direction taken by the culprit and his mode of escape. Call the police as soon as it is safe to do so.
If you have any information to help us solve any of the cases or wish to report suspicious person(s) loitering around our neighbourhood, do not hesitate to contact
Tampines NPC at 1800 – 587 1999.

CEPAS Card Replacement for GSPS
In cases where the pupils had forgotten to bring the old cards to change the new CEPAS, cards were still given to them.
However they still need to go to Translink Office to activate the new CEPAS card. They have to bring their old card to get the value transferred as well. No Payment is required.
For pupils who had lost their cards, they were still given new cards.
The new cards need to be activated and a replacement fee of $18 plus$5 totalling to $23 will be charged.

How to prepare for an Examinations
Getting Started
Preparing for exams can be difficult for a variety of reasons. These tips can help you prepare yourself, both mentally and physically:
- Be prepared. Pace your studying throughout the semester rather than waiting until the last minute
- Get plenty of rest and eat healthy meals
- Be positive. You studied thoroughly - you can do well
- Think actively and logically
- Read the instructions carefully
- Plan your time well
Ask Yourself These Questions
- How long is the test? How much time will I need to complete the test?
- How many questions are there?
- What are the marks awarded for each question?
- Do I need to split my time between multiple choice and essay answers?
Successful Test-Taking Strategies
- Answer the questions you know first
- Answer the rest of the questions making sure you have completed the paper before handing it in
- Reread your answers carefully
- Learn from your incorrect answers. If your exam is returned to you for you to keep, review your incorrect answers and study those concepts in more detail

Dictation 8 (Rescued from Drowning)
Without hesitating, she kicked off her shoes and plunged into the water. She swam powerfully and within seconds, she had reached the boy. She caught hold of him and managed to drag him to safety. On the shore, she administered CPR to him, while feeling for a pulse. After a while, the boy managed to sit up weakly.
Dictation 7 (Accident)
Tim felt the warm trickle of blood down his face. Blood was oozing from a gash on his head. He tried to stem the flow of blood by pressing his hand over the gaping wound. Ambulances, their sirens blaring, tore down the road towards the scene of the accident. The police appealed for any eye-witnesses to come forward with information. They managed to trace the hit and run driver because of an eye-witness’s account of the accident.

Dictation 6 (Lift breakdown)
He took a deep breath and tried to calm down. He was claustrophobic and the darkness did not help. The atmosphere in the lift became increasingly suffocating. He felt that his lungs would burst. After what seemed like an eternity, the lift sprang back to life. It started to descend smoothly and he heaved a sigh of relief.
Dictation 5 (Lift breakdown)
With a violent jerk, the lift stopped between floors. Peter jabbed the lift buttons impatiently, but there was no response. After a few moments, the lights flickered and went out. “Great!” he thought sarcastically. The lift was plunged into pitch darkness. Another boy groaned in terror when the lift ground to a halt. He gripped his bag so hard that his knuckles turned white. He was paralysed by fear.

Dictation 4 (Crime - Conclusion)
The two boys managed to catch the snatch thief and pin him to the ground. They restrained him till other passers-by came to help them. From a distance, they could hear the wailing of sirens. The thief’s accomplice, who was acting as a look-out, gave a shout of warning and took to his heels. Gagged and bound, hand and foot, the thief watched helplessly as his accomplice clambered out of the window and fled from the scene.
Dictation 3 (Crime - Conclusion)
A masked man, brandishing a knife, came out of the shadows. He pinned the old man to the wall and demanded his wallet. Before fleeing, the robber went through his pockets and took his mobile phone. The old man put up a fierce struggle and managed to thwart the thief’s intention of running off with his wallet.

Dictation 2 (Hot day - Introduction)
The sun-drenched morning sky heralded another scorching summer day. The children practised for the parade in the tropical midday heat. They were visibly wilting under the blazing sun. It was a wonder that none of them got sunstroke. They continued walking in the sweltering heat. The burning sun scorched their skin.
