Oral Pointers

Here are some pointers for the Oral Examination:

Reading Aloud
  1. Pronunciation - Smooth delivery with no hesitations.
  2. Pause at appropriate places.
  3. Read at a suitable pace, not too face nor too slow.
  4. Use intonations (rising or falling tones) to reflect events or dialogue.
  5. Read audibly, making sure you are not too soft.
  6. Incorporate expression in reading so that reading sounds more lively.
  7. Do not skip words that you are unsure of. Make an attempt to read them.

Picture Discussion

  1. Focus on providing explanations and interpretations.
  2. Use appropriate and extensive vocabulary.
  3. Use appropriate tenses.
  4. Ensure accuracy of sentence structures and grammar (tense, verb agreement, prepositions, etc.)
  5. Refrain from providing one-word answers.

Conversation

  1. Topic will be related to the theme for the READING ALOUD and PICTURE DISCUSSION sections.
  2. Use appropriate and extensive vocabulary.
  3. Ensure accuracy of sentence structures and grammar.
  4. Give intelligent personal responses, elaborate on responses given and introduce ideas related to topic.
  5. Speak clearly and confidently and always maintain eye contact.
