Recently, two molest cases occurred in the lifts at Blk 496D and Blk 491H Tampines. In these cases, the culprit would loiter around the lift lobby and wait for the opportune moment to enter the lift after the victim. While inside the lift, the culprit would seize the opportunity to touch the victim and flee when the lift door opens.
The description of the culprit is given as follows:
- Male Chinese aged 18 – 20 yrs;
- Short hair with black spectacles and carrying a small black bag;
- Wore a yellow colour t-shirt and a light coloured bottom with red sport shoes.
You can avoid being the next victim by adopting the following crime prevention measures:
• Always be alert and attentive to the surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to the nearest open business premises, crowded area or call the police to seek help;
• Avoid taking lifts with strangers. Let the stranger take the lift first and wait for the next one;
• If you are returning home alone late at night, make arrangements for a family member/trusted friend to accompany you home.
Should you be a victim of crime, remain calm and do not resist. Take note of the description of the culprit, e.g. his appearance, clothing, height and other physical details. Also note the direction taken by the culprit and his mode of escape. Call the police as soon as it is safe to do so.
If you have any information to help us solve any of the cases or wish to report suspicious person(s) loitering around our neighbourhood, do not hesitate to contact
Tampines NPC at 1800 – 587 1999.
