Dictation 6

Hitting

The home team was heading for a well-deserved victory. Mike was dribbling the ball down the middle of the field. He passed the ball to Tom, who lobbed it to Andy, their star player. Andy headed it straight into goal. The stadium erupted into thunderous applause. Mike clenched his fist and pummelled the air. His team mates ran to him and hugged him with joy and clapped him on his back. The whistle blew piercingly. The match was over! In his joy, Mike ran straight into the referee and knocked him down.

Dictation 5 - Falling

Falling

Kate angrily ripped Peter’s glasses from his face and tossed them out of the window. Horrified, Peter watched his glasses plummeting eleven floors.

“You’re in big trouble!” he cried out.

Feeling guilty, Kate went down to retrieve the glasses. The lift seemed to descend more slowly than usual. When the doors opened, she hurtled out in a tearing hurry. Then she tripped over a low wall, lost her footing and was sent sprawling onto the pavement. Painfully, she limped over to where the glasses lay, shattered into a million pieces! Tired and bruised, Kate slumped down onto the grass and waited for Peter.

Dictation 4

Movement

John was strolling in the park with his buddy. “Thief! Thief!” he heard an old lady shouting frantically. While his friend broke into a run towards the lady, John sprinted after the thief. He was hot on the heels of the fleeing man when a ferocious-looking dog charged after them. Both John and the thief put on a sudden burst of speed. As they reached the main road, the crook darted recklessly across three lanes of traffic, leapt onto a parked motor bike and raced off down the road. By then, the dog had been restrained by its owner and a police car was in hot pursuit of the fleeing man.

Dictation 3

Injured

Sabrina was in a state of shock. She was clutching at her wound in a vain attempt to stop the blood flowing from it. She swayed feebly on her feet, then fainted due to a loss of blood.

When she came to, she found herself on a bed. The smell of disinfectant assailed her. A drip was attached to her left hand and the wound had been bandaged. A nurse greeted her perfunctorily and set about checking her temperature.

Dictation 2

Frightening

As he turned the corner, there he was – the sinister stranger. He glared at them through eyes as red as coals. The boys shrank back in fright. He let out a demonic laugh and thrust his repulsive face with his long, hooked nose in front of them. He was so close that they could see a pulse beating behind the livid red scar on his right temple. His filthy dishevelled hair fell over his face and he reeked of alcohol. His loose, ill-fitting clothes looked as though they had been slept in.

“Are you scared of me, little boys?” he asked, smiling menacingly at them.

Dictation 1

Old and young

The old man hobbled slowly towards Jack. He gave a deep, wheezing cough as he inched forward. Jack went up to him and held his hand. Jack was wearing his favourite T-shirt which was emblazoned with a dinosaur. His usually wild mob of hair has been combed neatly for the occasion. After all, it was his grandfather’s birthday. He had reached the ripe old age of ninety. He peered at Jack through his thick glasses and gave him a toothless smile.

“Grandpa, have you forgotten your false teeth again?” Jack giggled.

His grandfather’s weather-beaten face creased into a smile. “No one noticed except for you!” he chuckled.
